Tous les chemins mènent à Rome? Computational analyses to document, study and understand Roman road networks
The study of Roman roads has a long tradition. Before the arrival of the Digital Era, the main studies were focused on understanding and compiling road networks, the morphology of Roman roads and the main elements linked to a road, such as mansiones, milestones or bridges. Currently, the study of ancient transport networks has evolved, expanding the objects of interest to other aspects such as the functioning of the networks or connectivity analyses. In this presentation, some methodologies that have recently been applied to the study of Roman roads will be explained, both at a provincial level and to the communications network of the entire Roman Empire.
